This fall we added 5 new chickens to the flock. We bought them as baby chicks in the summer, after all our travels had mostly ended. We are trying some new breeds for fun, like the black jersey which is a chicken that grows to be twice the size of a normal chicken. And we also received a free chick from the feedstore as it has one blind eye. We call her pirate 🙂

They are learning to adjust to chicken society. They are lowest on the totem poll for now, so they eat last. But they are smart and quick and we haven’t had any fighting yet.

The goal is to have more laying hens come next year!
